Faced when 18 years of age with the decision either to study music in Milan or Spanish in Scotland (St Andrews University), Scottish-born Rosina Kettle-Williams (née Reilly of Irish Catholic lineage) opted for the latter. It was at St Andrews that she met her future husband. But for those ‘fateful decisions of far-reaching consequence’, our Cathedral might well have been without its voluntary cantor for the past 25 years and more.
Having graduated in Spanish and French, qualified as a secondary school teacher at York University and having won a number of awards for singing en route, Rosina then launched her own translation company (Verbatim Language Services) when children Alex and Adam first went to the Cathedral parish school of St John’s. It was also at St John’s that Rosina acted for some time as Chairman of Governors. Her current parish commitments also include being a member of the Cathedral’s Liturgy Committee.
‘Running a home as well as singing and keeping a business on track,’ commented Rosina, ‘tends to keep me busy, not to say up to high doh, if you pardon the Scottish expression’.
As an established soloist, Rosina has made a number of recordings and performed extensively throughout the UK, Holland, Germany and Spain.
