The second of four sisters, Ailish Myland-Stokes is immediately recognisable to ‘Nooners’ – i.e., those attending Noon Mass on Sundays – as one of the team of readers. But teenager Ailish’s talents go far beyond simply reading at Mass.
Ailish attends St Edmund’s Secondary School, where, as Deputy Head Girl, she is known not only for blowing her own trumpet – she is a keen trumpet-player – but also for being a member of the school’s choir and a keen swimmer (‘Northsea Swimming Club four times a week’) yet with a strong academic bias focusing on the ‘Ologies’: ‘I’d like to take Biology, Psychology and Sociology at A-level and then perhaps go on to study Sports Science at Chichester University’. Smiling Ailish is also a budding piano player: ‘I play a bit, just a little, but I really do need to practise more.’
In what little spare time she has, Ailish attends and supports the Youth Justice and Peace Group at the Cathedral. During this year’s summer holidays she will be volunteering, further to the school’s work placement scheme, to work with adults who have special needs.
