Penance & Anointing of the Sick

Jesus Christ is the healer of our soul and body. As Catholics we believe that the new life given us at Baptism can be weakened and even lost because of our sins. Therefore, to restore us to a state of grace Jesus, willed that his Church should continue his work of healing and salvation in two sacraments, often called the ‘Sacraments of Healing.’

The Sacrament of Penance is provided at the Cathedral on a Saturday from 11.00-12.00 and from 17.00-17.45 and on a Sunday for 30 minutes before each Mass when a priest is available. The confessionals are located on the left hand side of the Cathedral as you look to the Altar from the West End’s main doors.

The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is available on request, for those in danger of death through illness or age. Please contact the Parish Office or speak to one of the Cathedral clergy. We also have a Mass during Eastertide when this sacrament is celebrated with our parish housebound and anyone else who wishes to receive it; please check our weekly newsletter for the date of this.
