The programme takes the form of Childrens’ sessions which are held during the 12 noon Mass at the Cathedral on Sundays. We use a book which children are encouraged to complete at home between sessions. The most important part of a child’s preparation is coming to Mass, no amount of teaching can replace this experience, so we hope to see you and your child at Mass often.
As well as Childrens’ session there are Parents sessions’ when we shall be going through what we will be doing with your children. We hope in this way you will be able to help your child if needed and can talk to your child about their preparation. Although we hope to encourage your children you, as parents, have a much bigger influence than we do.
There is support from the parish. There are various catechists and there are also regular helpers during the childrens’ sessions. Any of the catechists or helpers will be pleased to answer your questions. If your child is at a Catholic school there should be help at hand also. Miss Hobbs, Headteacher of our parish school, is always happy to asisst parents.
The next First Communion programme starts in September 2009
